Uzbekistan to introduce short-term visas for transit tourists from May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 1 May 2018, Uzbekistan will introduce short-term entry visas upon arrival to foreign transit passengers for a period of 72 hours.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures for development of inbound tourism”.

The resolution is aimed at increasing the tourist flow to Uzbekistan and transformation of inbound tourism into one of important branches of the national economy.

The document said that transit passengers must have an air ticket and (if necessary) a visa to a third country. In addition, they must pay consular fees.

The resolution stated that Uzbekistan will approve the order of organization of short-term control trip of foreign transit passengers to tourist objects in line with the approved tourist programs. The tours will be organized from 8:00 to 21:00.

The President instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to adopt a government decision on implementation of this decision within two months. In particular, the Government will approve the list of countries whose citizens will be issued entry short-term visas upon arrival.

It should be recalled that from 10 February 2018, Uzbekistan introduces a visa-free regime for a period of 30 days for citizens of seven countries. Also from 1 February, Uzbekistan introduced a simplified procedure for issuing tourist visas for citizens of 39 countries.
